The 2017 SKMB Leadership Forum was held on January 21st at Parliament Community Church in Regina with The Compass Church, also of Regina, serving as co-hosts. This year’s leadership training focused on working with conflict in a church or camp. Scott Siemens, a member of Parliament Community Church and a federal government mediator was the facilitator. It was a hands-on training experience and those who were able to attend had many take-aways to apply in their own settings and were eligible to receive Scott’s PowerPoint presentation for future reference. The following books were ones that Scoot recommended as good followup to the session:
- From Violence to Blessing – Vern Redekop
- We can work it out – Marshall Rosenberg
- The little book of Conflict Transformation – John Paul Lederach
- Caring enough to confront – David Augsburger
- Getting to Yes – Roger Fisher & William Ury
In addition to the leadership training piece, the draft 2017 budget was introduced, the Director of Ministry gave a ministry report, and the SK Conference ministry teams gave updates as did the Canadian Conference of MB Churches. All pastors, chaplains, directors, moderators, treasurers, deacons, elders and board members were welcome to attend and many took advantage of the opportunity.
