"Supporting SKMB Churches and Camps in making disciples."

Leaders Collective - Enlarging One’s Capacity To Lead

Our first retreat emphasized building our Leaders Collective community. Redberry Bible camp provided a great setting for us to gather together from 5 different rural and urban SKMB congregations. One participant wrote that a highlight of the weekend was “having the time to be able to have fun and connect with others, getting to know one another!”

We explored our collective thoughts and experiences with leadership and became more aware of our unique strengths and challenges as leaders. Saskatchewan’s Leaders Collective aims to develop leadership capacities for the church and wider world. We were encouraged to hear that the retreat provided insights “for how to interact with work colleagues and bring God into a very secular work place.”

Our young adults were asked to look at three different case studies that church leaders may face using our Canadian MB Confession of Faith as a resource.  One participant was thankful for “the willingness of the group to tackle difficult topics and conversations, and work together to develop next best steps.”

To support the spiritual and character growth of our leadership we envisioned a biblical/Spirit led life, as exemplified in the life of Christ.  We discussed values and ways to work with God in developing such a life, and time was also given for the spiritual disciplines of corporate worship, silence, journaling/meditating on scripture and prayer.

Our debrief session allowed us to share new insights gained. One participant expressed that they enjoyed “getting to engage with new leaders and learning new ways to grow.”  The collective experience seemed good and Spirit led, again as a facilitation team we are thankful that participants left knowing “I am not alone as a young leader who is learning and growing.”  Jacqueline Block
