Anchor Church Is Born

Every parent knows how exciting milestones are in the life of their child. From the first time they roll over to their first words and steps, each milestone marks growth, health, and maturity that lead toward eventual independence. When it comes to church planting, milestones are equally exciting. From the birth of a new church to the first baptisms, first members, and new leaders, countless milestones are celebrated along the church planting journey. One of the greatest joys in the church planting journey is seeing a church plant move towards maturity and health. And so, we are announcing that The Compass West is now Anchor Church.

Why change?  The question that Blair (pastor of The Compass Church) and I had talked through often over the past number of years when it came to our model of church planting was, "would it be healthy and good for us to move to standalone churches?" As we had this conversation this past year, we both felt that we were at a place as individual churches where it was time for this to happen.

Obviously, there is a lot that goes into this kind of decision, but from my viewpoint, there were three big reasons why we were ready to make this kind of change:

We have a healthy and growing leadership team. Anchor church is blessed to have a team of leaders who love Jesus, love the church, and are gifted and committed to seeing our church remain focused on the mission of Jesus here in Regina.
Over time we begin to notice that we have developed a culture that shares the same DNA as The Compass but is different, and this is a good thing!
Our Churches were becoming less dependent upon each other. We could think about this from the lens of parenting. When you have a child, that child utterly relies on you to stay alive. But as they grow and mature, that dependence slowly changes to the point where your child no longer needs you in the same way and with that, your relationship changes. This, in many ways, is the desired outcome for our church plants, and it is where we found ourselves this past year.
On September 4th, we officially transitioned from The Compass West to Anchor Church and to be honest, and I am still not used to the name change. As a leadership team and church family, we are excited about this next chapter that Jesus is writing in our church's story!  Although our name has changed, our values and mission remain the same. Anchor Church is a community of imperfect people being transformed by Jesus for the good of the city.  We value your prayers as we seek to faithfully make Jesus known here in Regina.

“Oh, that I had the wings of a dove!

PS 55:6

Have you ever just wanted to escape and find rest? While the Psalmist shares this verse in the turmoil of life, for many of us, the idea of retreat is escaping routine, busyness, and many challenges.
