"The Great Commission is not an option to be considered; it is a command to be obeyed" - Hudson Taylor

What a challenging quote from one of history's most invested and influential missionaries. So what is The Great Commission? Is it primarily an order from Jesus for us to enthusiastically commit our lives to? Many of us (myself included) would be inclined to say, "Yes!", and while that is not a bad answer, it often places the emphasis on OUR effort and dedication rather than on Jesus who is the one who INITIATED the commission to humankind. The Great Commission beings with Jesus saying, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me." (Matthew 28:18b ESV) Then it ends with Him affirming that, "I am with you always, to the end of the age." (Matthew 28:20b ESV)

God is on a mission and His missionary is the church.

This is why PRAYER is so essential as we endeavour to obey Jesus' command. We need to regularly stop, drop to our knees, and pray to the God who we know through Jesus Christ and His Spirit alive and active all around us. It is similar to the school safety training for children if they were to find themselves on fire - they need to stop, drop, and roll.  Today, we are surrounded by a world on fire - in so many different ways!  There is great wisdom in the midst of this reality we live in to stop striving, drop to our knees, and roll out our prayers before God.  Toward that end Ryan & Terri Epp from Multiply and the SKMB office are teaming up to call the SKMB community to prayer.

We are hosting a prayer meeting every other week - often on a Wednesday evening from 7-8pm CST. We will begin with a short time of visiting and connecting, then spend most of our time reading God’s word together, voicing our prayer requests to God and giving Him space to speak to us and draw us closer to His heart. Our desire is that this meeting would not be just another resource to attend virtually, but that everyone who comes would be able to engage in a meaningful way as we focus our attention on Him who has all the authority and is always with us.

As a means to keep everyone updated and to provide the actual link to join the Wednesday meetings we will also be sending out a regular prayer update which will include past themes, answers to prayer, calls to continue praying and the outline for the current week’s prayer meeting. It will also include a link to join the meeting, if you are interested in joining this prayer group please reach out:

It is our conviction that this prayer meeting, and others like it, are one of the important means by which we, as a group of churches across the province of Saskatchewan, will be able to live into the vision to be a Church passionately in love with God, led by His Spirit on mission, bringing Jesus’ Gospel of redemption and restoration to the four corners of Saskatchewan.

“Do not abandon yourselves to despair.  We are Easter people and hallelujah is our song.” - Augustine
