Shine in the Darkness

On November 1st, Saskatoon and area churches gathered for an inspiring Gospel event at West Portal Church focused on God’s incredible work in Central Asia. The evening was filled with worship, testimonies, and stories that reminded everyone that the gospel continues to spread with love and power—even in places where faith often comes at a cost. The evening began with a time of singing, followed with a video created by Colombian partners living and serving in Central Asia and finished with people lifting up their hands in prayer.
Hakan brought greetings from the land of Paul, highlighting the deep historical significance as the starting point of many early churches and yet its current reality as a country where believers represent less than one percent of the population. Together we heard of how God is transforming lives through dramatic encounters with the Holy Spirit and how we can expect suffering as we walk with Jesus. Perhaps the most important word for us to remember from the evening was a challenge to walk in obedience, trusting the Holy Spirit to guide us.
One of the most eye-opening moments came when we heard how Turkish believers themselves are beginning to lead new church plants. Through a team of faithful brothers and sisters, three fellowships have started and now their goal is to baptize 35 people every year. They are actively discipling others, distributing Bibles, producing Christian social media content, and serving those hit by the earthquake in the south. These testimonies reminded us that God is not limited by culture, politics, or fear—He is raising up His church in places once thought spiritually closed.
This event left everyone encouraged and humbled. It was a vivid reminder that while the spiritual soil in Central Asia may seem hard, the seeds of the gospel are taking root and bearing fruit. God’s light is shining in the darkness through courageous believers, and our churches are honoured to stand with them in the Great Commission.

Equip Update
As I was flying home to Saskatoon from the CCMBC Equip Conference on “The Kingdom, The Gospel, and Peacemaking” in Winnipeg, I looked out my window to see Winnipeg as we took off. From high in the air, Winnipeg looked crisp, organized, and intuitive. Everything “made sense” and I could clearly see which roads were main arteries of the city as I watched the flow of traffic.
